The video production industry and the need for cinematic corporate video ads
by Shaun Khan
Industry veterans providing video production for decades will very soon be having to directly deal with SEO professionals to proactively increase SERP for video ads and re-innovate the entire post-production distribution phase of filmmaking. Many film and IT professionals believe the presence of online video will surpass many if not all other search engine ranking factors in 2016. Forbes’ Jayson DeMers recently ranked video ads as the number 1 “Online Marketing Trends That Will Dominate 2016.” Very soon if not already search engine searches will be trumped by video dominate sources and of the differentiating factors amongst top Fortune 100 companies throughout the nation and abroad. Providing a collective visual appeal to any businesses product or service has become crucial to the success of any business promoting goods or services. Content will always be present but having a dedicated storyline and visual appeal differentiates businesses from their competitors significantly. Google Search Results Prioritizing Video Results Mr. DeMers states “… Google is incorporating video ads into its search results means that user acceptance of such an advertising medium would greatly increase, and more video ads might appear in a wider variety of mediums as a result. In this way, Google isn’t starting a trend, but instead is reinforcing — and possibly legitimizing — a trend that has already accumulated momentum.” According to Cisco, “By 2019, 72% of Mobile Traffic Will Be Video.” The implications of the growth of film and video production between 2016–2019 will be astronomical and readily recognized as a resurrected emerging industry. The Game Has Changed Given the wide array of high quality digital cinema cameras and film tools, creative directors are often caught in a frenzy trying to figure out what steady-cam, gimbal, drone, slider or dolly to utilize for different cinematic compositions. The rule of 180, thirds, etc are soon becoming more and more extinct given the ease of which filmmakers can now compose their shots. Below is a shot of a creative director utilizing some of the most cutting edge technologies to frame an entire city around the focus of the shoot providing a unique aerial virtual tour. 4K resolutions have made this process even easier for film and video editors to tell stories by being able to reframe shots for a perfect shot composition. Successful filmmakers and video production companies who know how to tell stories and simultaneously deliver a message, motivate the viewer to take a desired action, and excite audiences with breath-taking visuals will differentiate the novice videographer from the professional film maker. Here are some staggering statics of the importance of video in the near future: Globally, consumer internet video traffic will be 80 percent of all consumer Internet traffic in 2019, up from 64 percent in 2014. The sum of all forms of video (TV, video on demand [VoD], Internet, and P2P) will be in the range of 80 to 90 percent of global consumer traffic by 2019. Internet video to TV doubled in 2014. Internet video to TV will continue to grow at a rapid pace, increasing fourfold by 2019. Internet video to TV traffic will be 17 percent of consumer Internet video traffic by 2019, up from 16 percent in 2014. Content delivery network traffic will deliver over half of all internet video traffic by 2019.
